“I Need Some Drama,” by Christopher Hopkins, the Makeover Guy®

Shari has weak, limp hair but it is naturally curly. She wanted volume, and messy and fun so by supporting the natural curl and letting it airdry we we able to capture a bit more zest. Amy Goulett lifted the eyes and Margaret Bodensteiner took out the gold and created a more skin flattering ash blonde.

Speaker 1:    We’re taking her from a warm, golden blonde from a brighter, cooler blonde. The regrowth will be a lot less noticeable and it will complement her and       her skin tone a lot more.

Speaker 2:      Mainly in the T-zone and under the eyes, this is where I put the face primer for smoothing and brightening. This is where we clean up the eye shadow that has fallen. Use your ring fingers, your weakest fingers and then lift up angular from your bones to the corner of your eye.

Sherry Vincent:  Like We did.

Speaker 2:           Make sure that we’re getting any of that eye shadow all over that angle because that’ll just pull down eyes so we’re lifting your eyes.

Sherry Vincent:     Sherry Vincent. I heard about it from  Julia. I’m so excited. I’m so thrilled with the look. I love the new color. I love the new hair cut. It’s just completely what I was hoping it would be.

I think just some drama. I’m an interior designer. I’d like to have something that kind of speaks my career and we have a wedding coming up. Our son’s getting married in October. I wanted to play with something new before that happens.

This is what I learned today. I have curly hair. Never knew it. I’ve always thought I had straight, limp hair. Surprise.

Love the color. Absolutely love the color.

Speaker 3:               And it’s you.

Sherry Vincent:          Yeah. It turned out fabulous. Look at all that curl.

MAKEOVER: “Incentive to Lose Weight,” by Christopher Hopkins, the Makeover Guy®

Linda was pretty down on herself. I thought she was stunningly beautiful and, as I often encounter, she couldn’t see it. We took the long gray hair and cut it into a short inverted bob. The soft beige blonde plus the incredible makeup by Kami Kleven truly knocked years off. What difference in personality from her before to after. Truly the POWER of pretty.

Transcript:

Linda: My name is Linda. I went on the Internet and watched his videos.
Christopher: She has beautiful, thick hair, but it’s thinning on top, which most people are used to at the age of 65. It feels so much thinner here, when it’s so thick down here. We’re taking this off. Length isn’t always beautiful, but that’s 3 years. Get rid of that.
Linda: Oh God.
Christopher: All right, you’re done, $195 bucks.
Linda: All right.
Christopher: That’s prettier, this of this.
Linda: I just really need to do something different with my hair and the way I look.
I think it was great. It was fun and I love the result. I love the color. I like the hair cut. I’m going to come back. I’m hoping that it will incentivize me to lose weight; maybe if I feel better about myself.
I think you knocked years off. I need a style that’s more complimentary to my shape of face. It’s for the shape of my face, and I think it really helped. I want to be maybe sassy, not flashy.
Camera Man: Oh, all right.
Linda: A little bit more prettier, yes, I do.
Camera Man: Awesome.

MAKEOVER: Blonde to Red

Hi. My name is Brooke. I’m in from a little town in Michigan, right outside Ann Arbor.

Christopher:            What are you hoping for? I mean, I have things that I can … visuals that would be … It depends on which change [inaudible 00:00:18], if you want to do something different.

Brooke:            Just a new, fresh look. My colors are warm. I really only wear warm colors.

Christopher:            Can we go a little more strawberry?

Brooke:            Yeah, that’s fine.

I came across some of Christopher’s videos on Youtube. I checked out his book, too.

I really like it.

Just to come out with a new fresh look. It’s how thorough everyone was. Not that that’s a surprise for this salon, but it was just a nice way to be treated. Trying to keep up with the change in age, you know.

It’s wide open possibilities, just to see what Christopher has in mind. Thank you so much.

MAKEOVER: I Want To Feel Better

Robert (behind camera):            Hi, what’s your name?

Jean:            Jean Mahone.

Robert (behind camera):            Jean, where did you come in from today?

Jean:            From Prior Lake.

Jean:            I feel old. I am old. I look old.

Christopher:            Okay, well we’ll change that.

Speaker 4:            I think we can pretty much match her brunette up to cover that up, but put a lot of foils in so it’s more of a softer brown all over.

We covered up her sparkle section with a medium brown.

Robert (behind camera):            The sparkle is what?

Speaker 4:            Her grays.

Jean:            I feel old. I look old. I want to feel better. Margaret, and the coloring and the time it took for her and Christopher to decide and then Christopher had to play with the hair to decide what it was going to do. Then the effects of the makeup is just wonderful.

I don’t spend as much time on it as I should. It will be fun maybe paying a little more attention to myself. Thank you.

MAKEOVER! Turning 50 and a New Job

Helen drove all the way from the Pittsburg area for her makeover at reVamp! salonspa in Minneapolis. Brittany Wenzel created a sunkissed ombre effect with her color, Kami Kleven gave some anti aging makeup tips and I brought her hair up to shoulder length and created internal layers for extra volume.

Here’s the Transcript:
Helen: Helen
Christopher: Helen, where did you come in from today?
Helen: From the Pittsburgh area. I was doing some searches and I was really impressed with your website and all the transformational pictures.
Brittany: We are kind of doing kind of an ombre kind of feel but it’s going to be very sun kissed. We’re going to darken her top a little bit but it’s going to be very beautiful. It’s going to fit her personality. Looks great. We’re just about to tone her.
Christopher: Oh.
Kami: You can use a darker color around the outer edges, this will make you look really younger having more color. This is called Latte, it’s so pretty.
Helen: I really appreciate the that you took women my age, just ordinary women and make them look so extraordinary. I’m looking to be changing jobs here in the very near future and I’ll be turning fifty in April.
I think it’s wonderful, I’m so happy. Thank you so much.
I don’t like super short hair but other than that I’m really open to to listen to everyone’s suggestions.
I thought it would be a a lot shorter and I love the color.
I just want to bring everyone I know here. I definitely want to come back for more too.

MAKEOVER! Thin Fine Hair and a Small Head

Transcript.

Joyce Murphy.

And Joyce how did you hear about us?

Um, my coworker gave me a great birthday gift.

Joyce from Hastings.

You’re really old.

Old! Flabby.

Class of ’82?

Yes!

Well there you have it.

There it is.

Why do we even show up in the morning?

She wants to fade into the woodwork and have not have anybody notice her.

Me too.

We already did the silhouette.

Well, I like my length.

Of course.

I think I put that on there.

OK. Well there you have it.

Because it’s so thin I don’t feel like shorter styles would me any better.

She’s wrong. But it’s okay.

It will be dark into here and then light.

And even a level seven, eight? I could do eight so we don’t freak out too much.

Like this somehow?

That’s better.

See how the length comes up like that it looks better than this?

Today I’m Joyce we are adding a little bit of depth and cooling off her color to make it more neutral.

We are going to do a lot of hand painting so it looks very natural and the regrowth will be really nice and easy to maintain.

What I have to do is not take your anxiety into myself because then I do not as good a job and I have to cut to make you look good.
We’re doing the whole lid with the all over light color. And this just evens out all of the skin tones and breaks it all up but using a color that is good for your eye color.

I just want a fresh new look and get out of this ’80’s hairdo that I’ve had forever.

I love my new look. Love it. Love the volume, the color, everything’s fabulous. I love it!

Really short short haircut.

Did you have a pixie when you were younger?

I did! My mother kept me in a Pixie all the time.

We’re creating a little volume.

Look at that! Volume!

I’m just amazed.

Holy head of hair, I can’t believe it!

You look very pretty. Do we agree now that you look very pretty? You can say it.

Ok. I feel pretty.

Good!

Look at you! Fabulous. Do you love it?

Yeah. Do you like the color?

I love the color. I love the cut. I think you look spectacular.

He is going to say “You look beautiful!”

MAKEOVER! I Look Like Me! by Christopher Hopkins, Makeover Guy

Terese flew in from Nashville and at 61 wanted a BIG change. So that’s exactly what we did. Amy Goulette, one of the countries leading makeup artists helped draw her wide set eyes in with brows and liner, plus contouring. Margaret Bodensteiner, lead colorist at reVamp! salonspa in Minneapolis, created the perfect red. In the end we all agreed, this was one of our favorite makeovers ever.
